Oops - By Chris

There are some words one would associate with Bengal. Films, communism, doe-eyed beauties and football to name a few, some deserving other not and after my trip to this place I would not want to add "fish" to the list. One gets the feeling that this is a very non-Bengali-user unfriendly joint and is designed to appeal to only those blessed enough to hail from that place. No rotis, tapioca, puri, noodles, bread, dosa only plain white rice. Is that all Bengalis eat ?? Hmmm

Ah yes, the fish. For a keralite, such as I, what was served was sub-par devoid of taste and seasoning. My companion asked, rather uncharacteristically for pepper and salt, and hailing from another fish eating culture was very less than impressed with the piscine fare. "My God what have they done to the fish " she duly exclaimed. The portions are small and whoever said that a meal would cost 150-200 is either a midget or has the appetite of an anaemic sparrow so mutton curry, betki, hilsa and the cutlets found its way to our table.

The cutlets were good and the next time I'm in the neighbourhood I'd probably order 10 plates to go with the alcohol but that's about it. The meat was bland, the hilse was uninspiring and the betki , was immune to the pleasant tasting masala that it was coated with.

Meal for two came to 450 without the sweets and I had place for a few doughnuts right after.

Good bengali food - By Palak

I have been to this restaurant since it started serving authentic Bengali food in a small dingy room. The food was great then as it is now though the price was much cheaper and the quantity much better. Bangaliana is a big brand in bangalore now with 3 restaurants in a short span of 2.5 years. The food is as authentic Bengali as you can get. The ambience is nothing great, except the bengali paintings, prose on the walls and the bengali speaking waiters help in creating a local effect. The food is a bit over priced but if you are a Bengali food lover just go for it. The fishes are brought from Kolkata every day and hence one will never miss any seasonal Machh. Overall a must visit place if you are a Bengali food fan and if you do not fall in this category... well the other restaurants nearby would be a good idea.
